Youth Swim Lessons

Youth Swim Lessons at Upper Valley Aquatic Center

Everyone can learn to swim!

We want everyone to know how to swim. Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death among children 1-5 years and the second leading cause for children 6-14. UVAC has a Learn-to-Swim Program right for you or your child.

  • We teach group lessons like Parent and Me for the youngest swimmers from 6 month, Preschool and Group Swim Lessons for children ages 3-13
  • We teach Adult Lessons for all ages and Private Lessons for anyone who needs individualized instruction.
  • Splash Camp offered during school vacations and summer months, is a great way to improve swimming for children 6-10 years with a daily half-hour swim lesson.
  • Financial Aid is available to help children and adults who may not be able to afford a learn-to-swim program.
  • To register for Splash camp and Group lessons, you would need to have an account through Captyn registration portal. You will need to register the swimmer, not yourself! For that reason, please add your swimmers as a family member so you can select them to register as well. Click here to create an account! uvac.captyn.com
  • **During Swim Lesson time,  parents and siblings receive 25% off Day Passes.  Also available to the lesson student who wishes to swim before or after their lesson!
  • Lessons are now offered in two locations: UVAC in White River Junction, VT, and Colby-Sawyer College in New London, NH. More Details -->

Colby-Sawyer Pre-Team

Colby-Sawyer Pre-Team is for children who can swim in water over their head as they are developing their crawl stroke and backstroke. The scope of these lessons does include work on drills and skills that would be considered preparation to join our UVAC Swim Team. Very similar to our UVAC Level 5/6 but since the class is taught by Singe Linville, our Colby-Sawyer Team Coach, it does include work with the pace clock, flip turns and racing dives. The class is taught at the Hogan Center Pool only in New London, NH.

Group swim lessons are held in sessions, usually between 5 ~ 6 weeks long. The registration is only available online and only possible during certain windows of time.

Not for group lessons. Make - up lessons are only scheduled in case of unexpected facility closure or instructor absence. In these case, you will be notified of the plan by email. Otherwise, the sessions proceed as scheduled regardless of individual attendance. If you are interested in more flexibility for scheduling swim lessons, please consider private lessons. These are scheduled according to your availability!

Please read through each level's description to the right to ensure that you choose the correct level for the swimmer and also see if the swimmer can meet these requirements. If you are still unsure, you can reach out to our Swim School Director, Kana Wyman, (kwyman@uvacswim.org), and make an appointment to evaluate their swim lessons level. The swimmer will undergo a 10-15 min assessment with one of our instructors and you will receive a level recommendation. We do our best to accommodate changes that need to be made after registration but we can not guarantee availability.

Please make sure you have towels, and goggles if you can get your own!

If you are a member, Yes! But Swim lesson registration does NOT include access to the pool outside the lessons. **During Swim Lesson time, parents and siblings receive 25% off Day Passes at the welcome desk.  Also available to the lesson student who wishes to swim before or after their lesson!
